This Week’s Best Technology Deals
Now that the kids are back in school, it’s time to stock up on new gadgets. This week’s column lists some pretty expensive ones.
This week, Amazon is having a huge special on 4K television sets. Warning: Prepare for your wallet to get extremely sick. But this Samsung 4K (and 3D) television set, in particular, is just too good to not go broke for:
Samsung UN55HU9000 Curved 55-Inch 4K Ultra HD 120Hz 3D Smart LED TV
Samsung makes the most beautiful HD and Ultra HD television sets. The contrast ratios are noticeably better than they are with other brands. This 55-inch 4K television can be purchased for $1802.86 (with free shipping) from Amazon and it's the best deal this column has posted yet for a 4K television set. The regular price is $2499.99. For people who still care about 3D, it's there. Like all other Samsung 4K televison sets, this has software so you can play your favorite flims on Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, etc. It also has software that enables you to connect a USB drive so you can play just about any formatted home video. Warning: Once you see home movies shot in 4K (Samsung Galaxy smartphones allow you to do this), you won't be able to walk away from the television set. Worst, you may even try to jump into it since the 4K picture looks so real.
LG Electronics 55UF6800 55-Inch 4K Ultra HD
LG may not be at the top of the brand list for 4K televisions, but they aren't at the bottom either. At $897.99 ($802 off the regular price), this television set is practically a steal. While LG's television set's aren't as crisp and clear as those by Sony and Samsung, the picture on this set will still look great. The color may be a little flat out of the box, but you can easily change it in the settings.
Samsung Galaxy Note 5 With Free Charger (And $200 Gift Card With Phone Trade-In)
There is only one thing that can be said about Samsung's Galaxy Note 5: It is, by far, the best smartphone on the market today (and may still be after the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus are released). Best Buy is offering a free wireless charger with the Note 5 (and it's not one of those slow charging devices) when you activate Samsung's latest device on Verizon or AT&T. Best of all, if you trade in your old smartphone (and Best Buy says they will allow almost any working smartphone for a trade) they will give you a $200 gift card. You'll hopefully use that to buy a case for the phone since the back is made of glass.
