Samsung Galaxy Grand Preview – a 5-inch Mid-range Android Smartphone

Samsung Galaxy Grand Announced

Samsung Galaxy series smartphone have attracted quite many customers in the previous couple of years. Devices like Galaxy S2, Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Note 2 have caught everybody’s eyes. Unfortunately, not everybody could afford them. Now, Samsung just recently announced the new Samsung Galaxy Grand, a mid-range, mid-cost Android smartphone.

Form Factor

The look of Samsung Galaxy Grand is very similar to Samsung Galaxy S3, though a slightly bigger, measuring 143.5 x 76.9 x 9.6 mm. These measurements more likely put it in the same league as Samsung Galaxy Note at the same time.

Display

Samsung Galaxy Grand features a 5-inch display which sounds great but not so much without resolution that suffices. User may be able to pardon the fuzz and relatively dimmer 480 x 800 pixels display, but it is not too bad for a low-budget device.

Connectivity

Samsung Galaxy Grand support HSPA+, WiFi, DLNA, Bluetooth 4.0, pretty much all connectivity options. Another good news is, it come with dual-SIM model as well as single-SIM one.

Camera

The phone features a 8 mega-pixels camera which support zero shutter lag and an illumination sensor at the back. Beside being able to capture images in the dark and shooting Full HD videos with the rear camera, it also support video chatting with the front-facing 2 mega-pixels camera.

Software

Samsung Galaxy Grand runs Android 4.1.2 out of the box, which enable users to run multiple apps at the same time without having to switch screens. Further more, it comes with features including Direct Call, Smart Alert, S Video, Popup Video and AllShare Play.

Performance

Samsung Galaxy Grand is not so powerful like the Galaxy S3 or Galaxy Note 2. However, its 1.2GHz Dual core processor will allow at least two running apps to make use of the Multi Windows feature. 1GB of RAM also sounds sufficient to get most operations running. The internal memory is 8GB but the phone comes with a microSD card slot which could be expanded to 64GB.
